Aliya John won the Under-17 Girls Title of the KPMG National Table Tennis Championships at the West St. George Secondary School in Belair at the weekend when she defeated Courtney Bacchus 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 in the Final.
Kadeem De Shong took the Under-17 Boys Title with a 7-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8 win over Cruz Halbich. Earlier, De Shong had Rondre’ John in their semi-final encounter 11-6, 11-7, 11-8, while Cruz Halbich overcome Andre Mitchell, 9-11, 14-12, 13-11, 11-6 in the other semi-final.
The Women’s Title was won by Unica Velox who defeated Natasha Shortte three sets to one 11-7, 11-7 10-12, 13-11.
Stephen Payne emerged Men’s Champion with a 9-11 11-8 11-9 11-4 11-7 victory over Carlton Daniel.
In the semi-finals, Payne had earlier defeated Robert “BOB” Ballantyne 11-9, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7 in a 7-set thriller, while Daniel won from Joseph “JOSE” Carrington 11-3, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.
