The executive director of the NIS Reginald Thomas says it is important that the public be made aware of the programs offered, as well as the reform measures that have been implemented to preserve the financial sustainability of the NIS.

Some of the reform measures which are being implemented include an increase in the contribution rate from eight to ten percent, a gradual increase in the number of years required for pension eligibility from five hundred weeks to seven-hundred and fifty weeks and a gradual increase in the retirement age to 65 years starting in 2016.
