Work is continuing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to establish a local Internet Exchange Point (IXP) during this year.
An internet Exchange Point (IXP) is a physical structure through which internet service providers (ISP’s) exchange Internet traffic between their networks. The primary purpose of an IXP is to allow networks to interconnect directly, via the exchange, rather than through one or more third-party networks.
Head of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), Apollo Knights said thus far they are making good progress with the work.
He said they did an extensive amount of work on the program in 2013 and they are currently awaiting bids from local companies to supply and install the equipment which is needed for the IXP.
Mr. Knights said they are currently making progress on the location where the IXP will be housed.
He said they are preparing to have a meeting of the IXP Working Committee within the next two weeks to plan the way forward.
