The Sustainable Grenadines Incorporated (SUSGREN) held a number of activities over the weekend in observance of World Wetlands Day, which will be celebrated globally on February 2nd.
Director of SUSGREN, Martin Barriteau says World Wetlands Day is observed annually on February 2nd and they see the need to participate in these activities because St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a significant amount of mangrove cultivation.
He said these coastal ecosystems are responsible for many livelihoods in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Mr. Barriteau said while St. Vincent and the Grenadines is not a signatory to the RAMSAR Convention which covers Wetlands around the world, it is their hope that the country will sign onto this treaty soon.
He also outlined the activities which they held over the weekend.
