The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has received assistance from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for the ongoing recovery effort, in the wake of last week’s natural disaster
On Tuesday December 31, a naval ship carrying 492 thousand US dollars’ worth of goods arrived at the Campden Park Port.
The shipment included cement, plywood, water, materials for shelters and heavy duty equipment.
On hand to receive the donation was Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves along with his wife Eloise and representatives of the National Emergency Management Office- NEMO.
The Prime Minister said the gesture by the President of Trinidad and Tobago shows the long standing relationship between the two nations, since they share a similar history and family connections.
The Prime Minister added that the task of re-building the country cannot be achieved only through the deployment of state resources, and the support being received from sister territories of CARICOM is appreciated.
Dr. Gonsalves also used the opportunity to thank Vincentians for their show of brotherly love during the time of disaster.
The low-level trough system which impacted St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Christmas Eve, causing immense infrastructural damage; and leaving nine persons dead and three missing.
