Two Vincentians are now in Nicaragua participating in celebrations to mark Garifuna Arrival Day, which is being observed today.
The two are Teacher and Calypsonian Maxwell Tajo Francis of Fancy and Vice-President of the Garifuna Heritage Foundation Gail Baptiste of Owia.
President of the Garifuna Heritage Foundation David Darkie Williams says the day holds great significance.
Mr. Williams says the celebrations in Nicaragua are taking the form of a re-enactment of the arrival of the first set of Garifuna people on the beaches of Roatan. He said the ceremony is usually a very emotional event.
