Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has issued a strong denial to claims that he holds a multi-million US-dollar account in a Swiss Bank.
The Prime Minister raised the issue, after a document began circulating on social media on Sunday, alleging that he has 19 million US dollars in an HSBC Bank account in Switzerland.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the Touchdown Rally at Argyle last evening, Dr. Gonsalves said he has instructed to contact immediately the relevant investigating bodies under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty to probe the fraudulent bank document.
Dr. Gonsalves said he has spoken to the Chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Barbados, and has also instructed the Commissioner of Police to open a criminal investigation into the fraudulent document locally.
This investigation also include INTERPOL, the Regional Security System (RSS) and the Joint Regional Intelligence Fusion Centre of IMPACS.
The Prime Minister said he responded swiftly to this allegation as since it touches on the issue of good governance.
